Edition #08

Steve Aoki x Richard Orlinski

‘Year Zero’ pays homage to Steve Aoki’s roots in Hardcore.

This is the unexpected story of punk music’s influence on Steve Aoki’s meteoric rise to superstar DJ and a look back to the mid-90s when he was instrumental in developing California’s ‘straight edge hardcore’ punk scene.

It is also a co-curation with the biggest selling contemporary French artist in the world, Richard Orlinski, who art directed the collaboration and created the original character, Punk Kong, for this 12on12.

12on12 brings Punk Kong to life with a range of limited-edition apparel and lifestyle products produced to luxury standards and reflecting the artists’ shared sentiments.

Richard Orlinski

“I've always said that art has no boundaries. Music and especially vinyl, is very important in my life, I'm a DJ myself, so it's something that is very close to my heart. Working with an artist like Steve Aoki with such a special universe has been an honour, and mixing our two worlds between music and art to create this artwork with 12on12 is unique."

Steve Aoki

“My 12on12 celebrates the music that made me who I am today. Through hardcore, I discovered a true sense of community and the power of DIY - doing it yourself, by any means necessary.”
