Timbaland x Derek Fordjour
The creative partnership between Timbaland and Derek Fordjour is a powerful fusion of music and visual art, born out of a deep respect for each other's craft. This collaboration began with a shared vision, recognizing the profound connections between sound and visual elements. At its center is Fordjour’s original artwork, “Beatmaker”, created for this 12on12, which depicts a young artist in a makeshift studio, echoing Timbaland’s own rise in music. The composition of Fordjour’s piece, with bars, loops, and rhythmic elements, mirrors Timbaland’s iconic production style.
For the vinyl, Timbaland curates a selection of tracks that define his iconic sound, featuring artists like Justin Timberlake, Nelly Furtado, Cee-Lo, Ginuwine, Lil' Kim, Drake, and Brandy. These choices transcend mere popularity, reaching instead for the unique emotions and memories these songs evoke - moments that are irreplaceable and unforgettable in music history.
This collaboration goes beyond creating art; it’s a celebration of cultural and historical significance. Both artists use their work to radically expand the field of Black creative genius by imploring novel approaches to sound and material. Fordjour's visuals aim to capture and elevate the cultural importance of Timbaland's music, preserving its impact for future generations.
